Being a Member

As a member of Local 285, you are represented by dedicated officers and staff that are committed to improving the living standards of its members. Negotiating a fair collective bargaining agreement, enforcing your rights under such agreement and under the Ontario Labour Relations Act and promoting worksite safety are just few ways that local 285 represent its members.

Government statistics show that unionized workers make an average of 30% more than that of non-unionized workers in the same industry. We are able to do this because we bargain collectively with an experienced negotiating committee that consults with its members to find out the important issues. Having a collective agreement in place is what guarantees you your rights, working conditions and job security. Union members also enjoy some of the best health and welfare benefits in Canada. This includes pension, vision and dental coverage, disability insurance, assistance with WSIB claims and much more.
