Dear Members of SMART Local 285,
I am honored to accept the role of Business Manager and Financial Secretary-Treasurer for SMART Local 285. It is a privilege to serve our membership, and I am committed to upholding the values and principles that make our union strong.
First, I would like to take a moment to thank Bob Gougeon for his dedicated service and leadership. His hard work and commitment have made a lasting impact on our union, and I look forward to building on the foundation that he helped create.
I have been a part of SMART Local 285 since 2002, where I began my journey as an apprentice. In 2007, I was elected as a Trustee and in 2009 I was hired as a fulltime Organizer for the Local. In 2017, I was elected Business Agent where I served the members until my appointment as Business Manager/Financial Secretary Treasurer on March 1st, 2025. This new role presents exciting challenges, and I look forward to embracing them with the same passion and commitment I have always brought to my work representing the members of Local 285. My focus will be on protecting our rights and ensuring that every decision I make is one that is in the best interest of our membership and their families.
This year is shaping up to be a demanding one with important negotiations on the horizon for Gas and Sheet Metal both in Ottawa and Toronto, the hosting of the 49th Annual Canadian Convention in July 2025, and our search for a new Union Hall and Training Centre location.
Exciting events to look forward to are our Annual Golf Tournament on Friday, July 11th, 2025, our Show and Shine Car Show on Sunday, August 24th, 2025, our Annual Dinner Dance Pin Awards Ceremony on Saturday, November 29th, 2025, and of course, our Annual Children’s Christmas Party on December 7th, 2025.
I remain fully dedicated to Local 285 and its members, and I am excited about the future we will build together.
